His Excellency Dr. Elias Munshya grew up in the copper mining town of Chingola in Zambia’s Copperbelt Province. He holds eight earned degrees across multiple disciplines, including law (LL.B. & LL.M), counselling psychology (M.A.), business administration (MBA), and public/political theology (PhD). His doctoral dissertation was on church and state relations in Zambia and has now been published into a book.
Dr. Munshya's pre-diplomatic professional journey spans Zambia and Canada, where he served as a lawyer, preacher, and analyst. He was admitted to the Alberta Bar on May 3, 2016, and has represented civil, refugee, and human rights law clients in superior courts and tribunals across Canada.
On June 27, 2022, His Excellency Dr Hakainde Hichilema, Zambia’s President, appointed Dr Munshya as High Commissioner to Australia and New Zealand and as ambassador to the South Pacific. In this role, Dr Munshya has worked to improve diplomatic relations between Zambia and Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific island nations. Dr Munshya promotes Zambia as an attractive investment destination in agriculture, mining, technology, manufacturing, tourism, and more.
Dr. Munshya leverages his diverse expertise to promote sustainable development and influence policy in political and diplomatic arenas. His professional approach is characterised by a commitment to excellence and a deep understanding of the dynamic interplay involving government service, diplomacy, and economic development. As a post-Africanist, Dr. Munshya advocates for innovative philosophical and practical approaches to the continent's development.
