About Michael
Michael Valceski is a PhD candidate with the Centre for Medical Radiation Physics (CMRP) at the University of Wollongong (UOW). Driven by his love of science and his passion for helping others, Michael began his journey in science when he applied to attend the National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) prior to graduating from Figtree High School with his HSC in 2014. His original interest in science was in nanotechnology, and in physics due to his love of mathematics. NYSF provided Michael with the confidence and clarity to pursue a career in STEM, combining all his passions into the completion of a multi-disciplinary physics degree that majored in its application to medicine.
Michael has now completed Honours Class I in a Bachelor of Medical Radiation Physics (Adv.) as of 2018 at UOW and chose to undertake his Doctor of Philosophy with the CMRP at UOW. His PhD thesis investigates combination treatments for cancer, which blend the use of novel nanoparticles as nanomedicine with conventional, and new, radiation therapy techniques. Michael applies his skills to both laboratory research and pre-clinical trials.
