Round House to celebrate 150 years of history

The Historic Round House will celebrate a significant milestone this October, marking 150 years since the heritage landmark opened in Murray Bridge. 

The community is invited to join the Rural City of Murray Bridge for the Round House 150th Birthday Celebration on Friday, 9 October 2026, from 10am. 

Built in 1876, the Round House is one of Murray Bridge’s oldest surviving buildings and has played an important role in the history of the region. 

Over the years, the building has served a number of purposes, including as a Bridge Engineer’s residence, school, post office, local government centre, railway residence and church. 

The 150th birthday celebration will recognise the Round House’s place in the community and acknowledge the many volunteers, supporters and community members who have helped preserve and share its stories over generations. 

The morning will include a Welcome to Country, a formal recognition of the 150-year milestone, birthday cake cutting and music from the Strathalbyn Band. 

The Round House will also be open to the public, with heritage experiences, family-friendly activities, storytelling and refreshments available throughout the morning. 

Past and present volunteers, members of the Murray Bridge and District Historical Society, families, visitors and community members are all invited to attend and celebrate this special milestone.
