Something like a pop artist, June Jones is equal parts romantic and neurotic. Working with a DIY ethic inherited during an adolescence spent at suburban punk gigs and experimental house shows, she makes expressive left-field pop music from inside her minimal home studio. An itemised summary of her primary fragments might read like this: June Jones is a confessional singer, fictional songwriter, elaborate producer, and embodied performer. Making her home in the gradient between so many seemingly contradictory concepts, she embraces her work's idiosyncrasies, letting her disparate musical references be as autobiographical as the words she sings.
This year so far has seen her performing at Mardi Gras and Dark Mofo, and releasing two singles – Be Honest and Bachelorette – off her upcoming EP, Would that it were a fortress, out through EPR in August. Previous releases of hers have received album of the week from radio stations across the country, as well as nominations for multiple Australian and Victorian music awards. Jones has toured so-called Australia multiple times, both as headliner and support, performed shows in London, and taken part in the World Pride Songhubs and One Off Traks songwriting camps.
