The Renters Rights Rundown: Victoria’s renting rules
Event description
The Renters Rights Rundown: Victoria’s renting rules
More than 130 changes to Victoria’s renting rules came into effect on 29 March 2021.
The changes aim to make renting fairer and safer, including:
- New minimum standards and the ability to make modifications around the home.
- Limiting the frequency of rent increases and introducing a new process for managing rent arrears.
- Protections against discrimination and evictions.
To mark the second anniversary of the changes, VCOSS is holding an online sector briefing on Victoria’s renting rules, the Residential Tenancies Act 1997. With the changes now well established as the foundation for renters’ rights in Victoria, this is a timely opportunity to learn more about the changes or refresh your memory on the rules.
VCOSS will be joined by Ben Cording, Principal Lawyer at Tenants Victoria, who will answer any questions you may have on renters’ rights and supporting clients to navigate the new system.
This session is free and open to all, but designed for community sector workers who provide information, advice and assistance to people about renting issues.
We work towards creating a Victoria that is fair, just and inclusive. A society where nobody is trapped by poverty, and everybody is supported to live a life of wellbeing.
