Thu, 9 Oct, 6pm - 8pm ACDT

Event description

We are fortunate at the Royal Society of South Australia to be surrounded by scientists who have dedicated their lives to the topics of their research, building knowledge, solving problems and finding new discoveries.

It is an honour to be able to celebrate our Fellows and their distinguished scientific works, by presenting them with the Royal Society of South Australia’s Verco Medal. This medal is presented, following careful deliberation, to those who the society recognises and as having made an outstanding contribution to their field.

On the 9th of October, the RSSA will be awarding the esteemed Dr James Godfrey Gehling with the Verco medal, and you are all invited.

Dr Gehling’s palaeontological discoveries led to great advancements in understanding Precambrian organisms and their stratigraphic context; contributing to the establishment of highly significant palaeontological fossil sites and promoting their international importance. His work is well known and respected globally, and he has been recognised as a leading authority in his field.

The night will begin with the usual drinks and nibbles before the talks. We are very happy to have guest speakers Associate Professor Diego Garcia-Bellido and Professor Jim Jago presenting on the night, alongside 2 to 3 short videos from overseas colleagues.

Meeting Information

The event will begin at 6:00 pm with nibbles, refreshments and opportunities for pre-meeting discussions and networking. A small donation to the RSSA is greatly appreciated to partake in this and support the continued provision of these pre-meeting treats.

This event will be held in-person in the Royal Society rooms, but we will simultaneously live-stream the meeting via Zoom for those not able to attend on the night.

To attend either in person, or online, you must register here. The zoom link will be sent to you on registration. Please feel free to share this event with your institution or networks.

If in-person tickets are sold out, please be aware that we are unable to admit more people than our room capacity. If online tickets are sold out, please contact admin@rssa.org.au and we can supply the zoom link to you.
