Event description

Join RTCON20 to catch Alice Vigors' PD session on 'Mastering The Art of Thinking: exploring ways to leverage critical, creative and curious thinking in the classroom'

The challenges of today’s society requires young people to be creative, innovative, enterprising and adaptable, with the motivation, confidence and skills to use critical, curious and creative thinking purposefully.

In our classrooms it is therefore paramount that we embed metacognitive thinking processes into the pedagogical practices, learning experiences, dialogue and assessment opportunities we provide for our students.

This workshop will explore the role of metacognition in the classroom setting and examine why it is important to foster critical and creative thinking with our students.

Participants will also examine the key differences between critical and creative thinking, as well as unpack frameworks and pedagogical practices teachers can use to leverage metacognitive thinking processes in any classroom.

Alice Vigors is an Assistant Principal in the Riverina region of NSW who is passionate about developing and delivering high-quality teaching and learning programs to engage students in meaningful and authentic learning.

She has presented at a range of educational conferences on critical and creative thinking as well as inquiry learning approaches. Alice has been nominated for a 2019 Commonwealth Bank Teaching Award and was named as a finalist at the 2018 Australian Education Awards.
