Ruamahanga Farm learning day
Event description
At this Toru Trail, we look forward to a day of planting, learning and creativity at Ruamāhanga Farm in the Wairarapa.
The next event in our monthly series of events called the Toru Trail, find out more about our Toru Trail events here.
Just outside Martinborough, Ruamahanga Farm Foundation are bringing the local community together to help restore wetlands and provide greater access to the awa. The restoration is a foundation for Te Reo o te Wai, an arts and conservation programme for local primary schools.
Our hosts Jane Riddiford and Rod Sugden will share the story of the land and the conversion of a traditional stock and crop farm into a regenerative, community oriented venture. They will involve us in some of the experiential ways they are helping children and young people connect to hidden places along the Ruamāhanga. The day will include planting trees and grasses along a new wetland walk combined with nature based story telling, art and creative writing.
Lunch will be provided—feel free to bring a small contribution if you'd like (but not expected). We will have lunch by the awa or under canvas if it is wet.
