Run Rabbit
Event description
Run Rabbit by Victoria Abbott
Black Agnes holds out against a siege of 20,000 men in 1338, a bouffon Bunny rabbit with a strong NZ accent is locked out of her home with suspiciously autobiographical detail, the Placard scene from Love Actually keeps going off book and Victoria Abbott is just trying to walk home late at night without being interrupted. At first glance this is a historical comedy, but the interruptions start rolling in… Run Rabbit is a chaotic, hilarious, genre-busting, smash and grab solo show.

Things people have said about Run Rabbit:
“In the blink an eye, the show transforms from parodying to sinister. This is theatre with a bite. Even in the seemingly hysterical characterisation of her rabbit lies something too slippery to define. An incredibly funny gag in other hands is trickier in Abbott’s... Everything is handled with the clarity of a master at the top of her game... it’s exciting to imagine what a fully-realised version of the show might
look like... This a blistering evening of fight or flight.” – Nathan Joe, Theatre Scenes
“Victoria Abbott's Run Rabbit demonstrates she is a star in the making... [Run Rabbit] debuted to rave reviews and such demand last year it returned to Fringe for a short season. Instantly, you could see why... Abbott shifted effortlessly between the various beats, jumping from quiet sincerity and outrageous boldness in the blink of an eye. This is theatre at its most theatrical...”
- Ethan Sills, Critics’ Choice, NZ Herald
“It’s difficult to truly convey the sense of deep satisfaction when Abbott’s work comes together to make its point – when the ever-shifting energies that lead up to this moment all align... She holds her audience accountable whilst simultaneously entertaining and devastating them.”
– Rachael Longshaw-Park, Theatre Scenes
“Until the last vital minutes, you're never sure where, exactly, all this is heading.
And then Abbott brings it all together... and, when she does, drawing all the disparate threads of Run
Rabbit together, it hits you like a brick falling from a wall.” – Dionne Christian, NZ Herald
