Running a Business with ADHD
Description
Please note: this event is run by the Small Business Development Corporation for small business owners in Western Australia only.
Running a business is demanding, with competing priorities, constant interruptions, hundreds of decisions and an endless list of tasks. For business owners living with ADHD, or anyone who experiences executive function challenges, these demands can create unnecessary friction and make running a business feel harder than it needs to be.
This four-week workshop series takes a practical and interactive approach to designing the way your business operates to better support the way your brain works. Rather than focusing on changing the individual, the session looks at practical ways to reduce cognitive load, simplify decision-making and create systems that support consistency without relying on constant willpower.
Across four two-hour sessions, you’ll work through short learning segments, practical exercises, individual reflection and group discussion. Each session builds on the previous one, giving you the opportunity to apply ideas to your own business and identify what works for you.
You will leave the series with a practical action plan, helping you identify a small number of meaningful changes you can begin implementing straight away.
This topic covers:
Identifying points of friction that contribute to mental load, overwhelm and inconsistent performance.
Understanding how traditional business practices can increase cognitive demand and exploring alternatives.
Practical strategies to simplify planning and reduce decision fatigue.
Creating systems and routines that support focus and consistency.
Reducing reliance on memory, motivation and willpower.
Applying strategies to the realities of running your own business.
Developing a realistic action plan focused on what to stop, simplify and systemise.
