Event description

Running a Clinical Trial at Westmead - A Clinical Trials Seminar.

If you’re a clinician, researcher, or early-stage therapeutics innovator gearing up for your first (or next) clinical trial, this one-day, hands-on workshop will give you the roadmap you need. With expert guidance from David Lloyd of Southern Star Research, and Sam Frawley from Mobius Medical, you’ll learn how to design, launch, and manage a clinical trial in Australia - with a special focus on navigating the unique opportunities and logistics of using Westmead Hospital as your trial site.

This seminar strips back the jargon and delivers a step-by-step look at the full clinical trial journey: from regulatory approvals and ethics submissions to hospital site engagement and budgeting. You’ll also learn how to avoid common pitfalls, build a trial team, and align your trial design with funding and compliance requirements.

What You Will Learn.

By the end of the day, you’ll be able to:

  • Map the full clinical trial process from Phase I to IV, including timelines and approval pathways.

  • Prepare and submit ethics and governance approvals via CTN/CTA and the Westmead-specific process.

  • Identify and activate trial sites, including strategies for hospital-based environments like Westmead.

  • Build a robust data and safety plan including monitoring, adverse event reporting, and QA.

  • Understand GMP requirements for therapeutic products, including batch release and supply chain.

  • Engage with CROs and consultants effectively — and budget smartly from start to finish.

  • Identify relevant funding opportunities and maximise incentives like the R&D Tax Offset.

  • Apply lessons from real-world case studies to streamline your trial and boost outcomes.

Whether you’re preparing for your first IND or navigating a tricky ethics submission, this seminar gives you the tools and insider knowledge to run a smoother, faster, and more successful clinical trial.
