Rural SEN: Food Security
Description
Food Security in Rural Scotland
📅 24 November 2026 | 10:30am – 12:00pm
Everyone should be able to put good food on the table, but across rural Scotland too many people are struggling to do so.
A recent report by the Scottish Human Rights Commission found that more than half of people in the South of Scotland worry about affording food, and nearly half rely on a food bank or know someone who does. In rural areas, higher living costs, long distances to shops and limited transport make it harder still. Too often, it is charities and community groups that are filling the gap.
Rural social enterprises and community groups are already part of the answer. They grow and sell local food, shorten supply chains, support small producers and help make healthy food more affordable and easier to reach. In doing so, they keep money circulating locally and build a stronger, fairer food system.
Join Scotland’s Rural SEN for this online session to hear from Louise Nicol of Moray Climate Action Network about the Moray Good Food Partnership, and from Katie Lyons of Roseisle Market Garden about growing and selling local food in Moray.
Whether you run a rural social enterprise, grow or sell food, work in community development, or simply care about the future of Scotland’s rural areas, come along to hear real examples, share ideas and connect with others working to make sure no one in our communities goes hungry.
