Event description

Fencing South invite you to attend the Russell Towns Open 2025 to be held at Claymore Swords Club in Dunedin on 28-29 June 2025

Venue: Claymore Swords Club, 106 Bond Street, Dunedin 9011

Eligibility:

To fence in the senior championship events fencers must be 13 years or older on the day of the event.  (Fencing NZ Minimum Age Policy). If you are unsure whether the event is appropriate for you/your child, please check with your coach.


Participants must be affiliated members of Fencing New Zealand who have paid their membership fee for the 2025 fencing year.

0900 - 0915 Men's Foil registration

0930 Men's Foil starts


1000 - 1015 Women's Foil registration*

1400 Mixed Sabre starts* (This event will only proceed if at least 6 fencers enter)

Registrations:

Standard Registration closes on Sunday 22nd Junes at 2359.

Late entry closes on Friday 27th June at 2359 and will attract an additional fee of $25. Late entry will be at the discretion of the Head DT and Head Referee.


Entry Fees:


Individual Event: $25 per weapon + booking fees.

Competition Format:

Individual events: One round of poules (bouts to five points) followed by direct elimination rounds (bouts to 15 points). There will be no fence-off for Third Place.

Separate gender events will run except when a minimum of six participants in a gender is not achieved, in which case a mixed event will be fenced. We will endeavour to inform you of changes as soon as possible. Note, this will likely effect competitors in the women's event as a mixed event will start at the earlier start of the men's event

Multiple Discipline Entry: If you are entered in multiple disciplines and the next discipline is scheduled to begin while you are still competing, it may be necessary for the event to start. In this event you may be expected to choose whether you continue competing in the ongoing discipline or withdraw to start the next event.

Note there may be a requirement for self refereeing at various stages throughout the competition. If you are not comfortable refereeing please make this known to the DT on the day.

Note: this is a New Zealand National competition so the New Zealand specific rules are in place. Not the FIE rules

Weapon's will be tested for weights and gauges on the piste. It is the fencer's responsibility to ensure these are compliant on the day.


Video Refereeing:

Video Refereeing will not be used at this event

FIE rule t.122, is as amended and fencers will instead be required to salute each other, by way of acknowledging their opponent.

Drug Free:  By participating in this event, you agree that you have been warned of the potential of being selected for anti-doping testing and you will comply with anti-doping testing if required. Piste Allocations and Results:  Live results will be posted To FencingTimeLive.com and QR codes containing the link will be posted at the venue.

Podium Protocol

All Fencers must wear a School, Club or National Tracksuit Jacket and either breeches or tracksuit pants together with Fencing Socks and Shoes while on the podium. No hats, sunglasses or other casual attire are to be worn on the podium during the presentation.
