Sacred Sounds from the Suburbs - Culture X Festival
Event description
Culture X Festival 2024 presents
Sacred Sounds from the Suburbs
AÂ thrilling 80-minute journey of new music, celebrating the diverse and rich cultures of Western Sydney and the World.
Music producer Richard Petkovic (Cultural Arts Collective) delivers a new work featuring the Sydney World Music Chamber Orchestra and The Metropolitan Orchestra.
What if we took the vibrant, hidden musical talents of Western Sydney and created an extraordinary orchestra?
Imagine the powerful blend of First Nations ceremonial language, mesmerising Mongolian throat singing, the haunting sounds of the Chinese erhu, Uyghur Sufi song cycles from a seventh-generation musician, dynamic African percussion and so much more.
Now, combine this incredible fusion of cultures with Sydney’s most dedicated string section and their dynamic conductor Sarah-Grace Williams.
For the first time ever, the Sydney World Music Chamber Orchestra and The Metropolitan Orchestra join forces to bring 20 musicians together for the world premiere of 'Sacred Sounds from the Suburbs'.
Don’t miss this ground breaking event at this unique venue, featuring:
- Mongolian Throat singer and Horse fiddle sensation, Bukhu Ganburged
- First Nations Songstress Gambirra Illume
- Ukrainian violinist and vocalist Maryana Sywak
- Chinese Erhu virtuoso Nicholas Ng
- Vietnamese Classical Guitarist Ngoc Tuan Hoang
- Seventh generation Uyghur Bard Shohrat Tursun
- 9 piece string section from The Metropolitian Orchestra
and much more…
