Safe Dorms, Brighter Futures
Description
Join So They Can New Zealand to learn how a safe dormitory can transform the futures of more than 100 girls in Baringo, Kenya.
Right now, many girls walk for hours through remote and unsafe terrain to reach secondary school. These long journeys can expose them to gender-based violence and create a significant barrier to continuing their education. When girls leave school, they can also face increased risks of child marriage and female genital cutting.
So They Can New Zealand is raising $157,000 to construct and fully equip a 100-bed dormitory, including bathrooms, toilets and laundry facilities. By providing a safe and permanent place to sleep, study and rest, the dormitory will help girls remain in school, complete their education and have greater freedom to shape their own futures.
During this session, you’ll learn more about the challenges facing girls in Baringo, why safe accommodation makes such a difference, and how supporters across Aotearoa can help bring this life-changing project to life.
