We’re queer — as in funny.
This August, we're thrilled to welcome New York City’s own Akeem Woods to the SafeWords stage! A nationally touring comic with credits on The Late Late Show, HBO, Fuse, and Kevin Hart’s LOL Network, Akeem brings sharp wit and unfiltered honesty to everything from hookup culture to growing up gay in the South. If you haven’t seen him live, now’s your chance.
Joining Akeem is a stellar crew of Bay Area favorites and fast-rising stars. Come through for a night of laughter that’s punchy, political, and unapologetically queer.
Akeem Woods
(He/Him) | Gay
📱 @akeemwoods
Akeem Woods was a semi-finalist on Stand Up NBC, and has been seen on Kevin Hart's LOL Network, The Late Late Show with James Corden, Pause (Season 2, HBO), and Sex Sells (Season 3, Fuse TV). He’s also featured on House of Laughs on the WOW Network. A favorite on the podcast circuit, Akeem’s been a guest on Whorible Decisions, Lip Service with Angela Yee, Why Won’t You Date Me with Nicole Byer, and is a regular on Godfrey’s podcast on the Gas Digital Network.
Edib Farhan
(They/Them) | Queer, Non-Binary, Genderqueer
📱 @farhan__inc
Edib identifies less as a comic and more as a person standing in front of a crowd, asking them to love them. They grew up Syrian and Muslim in the South—which was not not hard. Their stand-up has featured at SafeWords Comedy, Comedy Oakland, Bitchfest, The Ruckus Revival, Trans Voices, LitQuake, and heavily in their mom’s brags. Edib co-created the queer comedy show Perversity, Equity, & Inclusion, which won Best Box Office and Best of San Francisco Fringe Festival 2024. They are somewhat embarrassed to admit that they have formally studied clowning and improv in both Chicago and LA.
Luisa Isbell
(She/Her) | Queer
📱 @luisaalana
Luisa is a local stand-up comic, improviser, and storyteller. She produces fan-favorite shows Cheaper Than Therapy (stand-up), About Last Night (storytelling), and Diversity Hires (stand-up). She has been featured in SF Sketchfest and SXSW.
Loren Kraut
(She/Her) | Queer, Gay, Lesbian
📱 @loren.kraut
Loren is a writer and comedian in San Francisco, originally from New Jersey. She’s performed in SF Sketchfest, SheDot Comedy Festival, Lysistrata Comedy Festival, Mutiny Radio Comedy Festival, and The World Series of Comedy. She hosts the monthly show Draw & Guffaw, where the audience draws the comics. Her Instagram reel series LOL Little Old Lesbian offers advice on living your best neurotic life, and her video series Giraffe Corner features stuffed giraffes in therapy. Her solo show A Bit Touched won Best Comedy at the Tucson Fringe Festival in 2018. Loren lives with her cat Scout and an unprecedented number of giraffes.
Caleb Zeringue
(He/Him) | Queer, Gay
📱 @caleb.meringue
Caleb is a comedian, writer, and producer from the South who’s now shaking up the San Francisco Bay Area scene. He’s performed on stages nationwide—from the NYC Queer Comedy Finals to the NOLA LGBTLol Fest—turning life’s rough transitions into punchlines that make you feel less shame and more joy. Irreverent, unapologetically real, and attempting to be deep, Caleb’s humor will smack you across the face—and you might like it.
He’s also a co-writer, executive producer, and cast member of the viral satire Luigi: The Musical, a wildly controversial and sold-out stage comedy blending true crime parody with chaotic queer camp.
Safe Words is San Francisco’s longest-running queer comedy showcase, held monthly at The Eagle. Each show is carefully curated to highlight both emerging talent and seasoned voices from across the LGBTQ+ spectrum. Our goal is to create a space where queer and trans performers can take the stage without compromise—and where queer audiences feel seen, celebrated, and safe.
Whether it’s your first show or your fiftieth, welcome to the room. We’re glad you’re here.
