This course is about bringing to life safeguarding and child protection within your work. It will give you greater confidence in what actions are best practice and how the law supports you to act in cases where you receive a disclosure of abuse, you are worried about neglect or a non-accidental injury. It will help you understand what safeguarding systems are, why they exist and provide you with confidence in responding to concerns about colleagues. You will also learn about potential gaps and barriers and how to avoid them in protecting children.
This workshop will cover:
Identifying and applying the core components of a child safe organisation
What makes a good child protection policy and procedures and how these need to be embedded and brought to life
Gain confidence in using the Oranga Tamariki Act Information Sharing provisions
Gain confidence in managing concerns regarding a child in need of protection or regarding an employee or volunteer of organisation
The importance of a safeguarding code of conduct
Child and adult Indicators of child abuse and neglect
Have knowledge of how to work with concerns of neglect
Managing concerns for non-accidental injuries
Handling disclosures from very young children
Gaps and barriers that can exist and how to address them
What records you should keep and what should be in them
