Event description

Safer Young Driver Days (SYD Days)

These half day courses are designed to give young drivers the opportunity to learn and develop defensive driving skills that can't be taught on public roads, with the aim of keeping them and other road users safer on our roads.

Students will participate in a number of practical workshops led by qualified driving instructors and will be behind the wheel of their own car to learn, experience and practice these skills, including:

- Emergency braking and avoidance

- Eyes Up control and steering

- Following distance and spatial awareness

As well as these practical sessions, there will be demonstrations and facilitated discussions looking at a range of things with both the vehicle and the individual that help keep us safe on the roads.

The course cost is for one student, in their own vehicle. A parent or caregiver is expected to attend with the paying student FREE OF CHARGE. This is a great opportunity for parents helping teach their children to drive to learn how and what to teach as well as brushing up on some of the knowledge and information themselves.

This is ideally best suited to young drivers who have already obtained their Restricted (Restricted drivers are 7x more likely to be involved in a serious or fatal crash), however Learner drivers who have at least 30hrs of driving should be capable of this course. Those younger drivers on their Full license are also welcome to attend.

Pre-requisites:

  • Restricted License or Learners with more than 30hrs driving
  • Road Legal Vehicle - Checked prior to use (WOF and Registered)
  • No large or loose items in vehicle that will move during sudden movements
  • Parent or Guardian to attend

PLEASE NOTE

On the day, please park in the main Air Force Museum carpark. From here enter the building and we will meet you at the entrance. Once everyone has arrived we will do a quick welcome and briefing in one of the rooms before all leaving together and driving in convoy around to the back gate to enter the runway site.

Course numbers are limited. If you are unsuccessful with this date you will added to a Waitlist. Should a space become available, Waitlist customers will be notified. We will also add new dates if Waitlist develops and Waitlist customers will be get first option on these.

As with most online booking systems, there are processing fees added to the cost of the course. While we have chosen to absorb half of these, you will see a small additional fee on top of the ticket price at payment.
