Safety in the Shadows: Kink vs Toxicity in Dark Dynamics with vahavta

Concepts such as consensual non-consent (CNC), degradation, humiliation, and the intentional imitation of abuse cycles are all valid ways to express power exchange and kink—and they can also quickly blur the lines between “healthy” and “unhealthy.” For many of us, especially those with trauma histories or neurodivergent wiring around attachment and rejection, it can be hard to tell “this feels awful but hot” from “this is quietly destroying me.”

Through the sharing of stories, research, strategies, and communication tools, participants will be empowered to navigate these complex relationships and discern between dark dynamics and toxic behavior. We’ll talk about communication you can actually use while dysregulated, how to notice when your mental health is slipping amidst dynamics that often intentionally trigger “negative” feelings, and what boundaries, structures, and care can look like in darker forms of total power exchange (TPE)—along with harm-reduction strategies and ways to course-correct (or leave) when a dynamic stops serving you. This class aims to empower you to live out even your darkest (consensual) relationship dreams by helping you to identify what it means to thrive inside of them, with an explicit belief that these skills and practices can be used by anyone—no matter your relationship history, trauma responses, or (physical or mental) health.

Your Presenter

vahavta is a kink writer and educator with a passion for risk-aware practices, personal agency, and the validity of all consensual desires. With over a decade of lived experience in 24/7 CNC-based Total Power Exchange—and longer, bottoming for emotional S/m and edge play—vahavta is the creator of the "Submission Beyond Limits" workbook for s-types and curator of the Risk Evaluation Database (RED). Disabled, Jewish, and femme, she believes in approaching kink with a firm understanding of intersectional context.

vahavta is proud to have taught for international communities both online and off. As an educator, they aim to give honest and risk-aware information that applies to the realities of human behavior, focusing largely on the "how" and asking people to consider their personal capabilities, interests, and readiness. She contributes regularly to kink blogs and her Fetlife writing index—much of which can also be found on her website at loves putting words together, watching her most romantic nightmares come true, and doing whatever her 50-lb lapdog wants. In all aspects of their life, vahavta strives to be a work in progress.
