Sake Masterclass For The Enthusiast, The Newcomer & The Curious

Event description

Explore the world of sake us with.

It's easy to enjoy drinking sake, but choosing and ordering can be daunting.
Sake, commonly known in Japan as nihonshu, is a complex drink made from very simple and unassuming ingredients. A staple of the Japanese lifestyle, it’s a beverage rich in culture and history and, let’s be honest, there’s no way we could cover everything there is to know about sake in one night .But we can get you started. What exactly is sake? And how do we get sakes with such varying and unique flavour profiles from fermented rice?

Guided by Thomas Ng, an International certified sake scholar and owner of Sake Imports Sakelier, we will journey through 8 various styles of sake learning the secrets behind the label.

Kanpai!

Here's a bit about our sake master Thomas Ng:
Thomas became enchanted by sake during his university days. From then on, sake was part of his life. With an International Kikisake-shi (certified Japanese sake sommelier), a WSET level 3 Award in Sake as well as a Sake Scholar from SSC he has extensive sake knowledge.

A chef by trade, he has worked in many high profile kitchens in Australia and Asia. For instance, Mr. Wong (SMH Good Food guide, 2 hats), Fung Shing Restaurant (Michelin Guide Hong Kong, Bib Gourmand), Shunsai Oguraya (Michelin Guide Tokyo, Bib Gourmand).

Thomas's passion for the sakes he discovered during his time in Japan (with focus on regionality) has him determined to  spread the joys of sake wit Australia.

During his spare time he runs a sake importing business and food pairing for restaurants and sake events.
