The title above refers to The Back Room's founder, Sam Rudin, and the original intention for this iteration of Sam's Corner was to once again feature Sam's great jazz-blues trio as they re-visit and re-invent some of the best known music of the 20th century.
But when the drummer and bassist both found themselves with unexpected but imperative family obligations, Sam decided that this was now the perfect opportunity to return to his solo piano roots.
In case you didn't know, when Sam first established himself in northern CA 40 years ago, he was best known as a rip-roaring solo pianist (and vocalist too), playing special events and blues/jazz festivals throughout the state. Embracing a moniker bequeathed by his friends, he performed as "Hurricane Sam." He eventually formed Hurricane Sam & the Hotshots, but he never lost his identity as a virtuoso and multi-faceted soloist.
Tonight he will no doubt include some material from his Hurricane Sam days - but he will also be including quite a few selections from his current project - a re-examination and re-interpretation of the music of The Beatles, filtered through his own wildly diverse pianistic proclivities.
Tickets are $15 general admission. Children under 12 are free. Advance tickets are available here, or if the show is not sold out, you may purchase your tickets at the door before the show.
Doors open one half hour before show time. We accept cash or Venmo only at the door.
