Talofa lava. This week, we celebrate Samoa Language Week!
The 2024 theme for Samoa Language Week is 'Tautua i le alofa, manuia le lumana’i – Serve in love for a blessed future'.
In celebration, we are holding two informal Samoan language sessions to cover Samoan pronunciation and some basic words and phrases that we can use in our everyday. Our project facilitator, Lautalie Schmidt-Geen, will lead these sessions, where she will share her journey of being a first-generation NZ-born Samoan and what it means for her. Her parents would speak Samoan to their agia, but the children would answer them back in palagi. This has meant that speaking Samoan is somewhat challenging whilst she can understand Samoan. Join us on her journey of rediscovering her culture and language and sharing her knowledge with our communities.
Both hui will take place on Zoom, at the following times:
7pm Wednesday, 29th May
12pm Thursday, 30th May
