04butchclub presents SAPPHIC SESSION - a night showcasing some local sapphic and FLINTA* talent of Te Whanganui-a-Tara.
Why We're Here
Live music hits differently when you're surrounded by your community so it's about time this happens for Te Whanganui-a-Tara sapphic/FLINTA* scene. In this dedicated FLINTA* space, you will be serenaded by incredibly talented musicians and artists based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara.
As a bonus reason to party, this space was created to honour International Lesbian Day - a global celebration with deep local roots believed to have kicked off right here in Te Whanganui-a-Tara back in the 1980s!
Introducing: The Mad Butches (2026 'Make a Band' Project)
To shake things up and get talent back on stage, 04butchclub launched a 'make a band' project. In true community spirit, we gathered a group of keen singers and musicians - who haven't performed in a hot minute and had never met each other before - straight into a practice room. They've decided to be known as The Mad Butches, and maybe there's a good reason for it? Come witness the raw, collaborative magic of their very first live set!
What to expect on the night:
Open mic karaoke in the first 30min, or grab the guitar and sing a song as everyone filters in and settles into the scene.

Accessibility inside the venue:
Single-level access throughout the main venue except for the VIP area, which is up a flight of stairs.
Flashing lights (from stage and photographers) and loud sounds will be present.
Free foam earplugs will be available all night.
Important:
This is a no TERFs, no SWERFs space, and consent is mandatory. Visible event kaitiaki will be present and moving throughout the venue to help ensure everyone feels safe, respected, and supported. There will be campus security outside of the venue.
This event has been organised and will be run by volunteers. Ticket sales go towards covering the venue, equipment and paying the artists. Any profit made will go towards the following Sapphic Session 🔥👀

FAQs
- Are under 18 year olds able to come to this event?
Unfortunately, no. For safety reasons, this event is R18 only and IDs will be checked at the door.
- How do I get into the building?
The venue, Hunter Lounge, is located on Level 3 of the Student Union Building (SUB). There are two ways of entry into the building:
1) Walk into Gate 3 of the Victoria University Kelburn Campus. Head over to the Student Union Building where you'll enter Level 4 of the building. You can use the stairs or the lift to drop down to Level 3.
2) Drive or walk into Gate 1. Continue to the end of the driveway where you will enter Level 1 of the Student Union Building. From here, take the stairs or the lift up to Level 3.

- Where can I park my car?
Car parks are available through Gate 1 and 7 of the Kelburn Campus, Otherwise, there is also parking available along Kelburn Parade, Salamanca Road and Waiteata Road. Please take note of parking rules where you park.
- Access to public transport/ride share?
Please direct your taxi, Uber, or DiDi to Gate 3 of Victoria University of Wellington's Kelburn campus. Public buses also stop at this location.
From Gate 3, walk into the university and enter the Student Union Building. You’ll enter on Level 4 - head down one level to Level 3.
There are also plenty of bike parks outside Level 4 if you’re cycling.
- Will there be photos taken?
Yes! There’ll be photographers around throughout the night capturing moments from the event. These photos will be shared in the 04butchclub instagram.
When you arrive, you’ll be asked for your consent to have your photo taken. If you prefer not to be photographed, no worries at all! We’ll give you a wristband so our photographers can easily identify you on the night and during the photo editing process, ensuring you’re cropped or blurred out of any photos.
Please make sure your wristband remains clearly visible throughout the night.
- Will food be available?
Absolutely! Hunter Lounge has a range of pizzas and fries. Vegan/Vegetarian/GF options available.

- Can I smoke/vape near the venue?
No, you cannot smoke or vape at Hunter Lounge or within the Kelburn Campus. The campus is smoke-free so you will need to head outside of the campus grounds to be able to smoke or vape.
- What is included in the VIP space?
For those wanting to level up their night, our VIP section will be in the foyer overlooking the stage, with ample space to boogie, hang out, and take in the action from above.
- When do General Admission tickets come out?
Either when the Early Bird tickets are sold out, or on the 25th of September.
- Want to be part of the next Sapphic Session?
Depending on how this one goes - If you’re a poet, rapper, musician, singer, bits of a band or already a fully-formed sapphic/FLINTA* band, keep an eye out for an expression of interest on the 04butchclub socials early next year for the next session 🤙🏽
- What does FLINTA* mean?
FLINTA* comes from the German queer community and refers to Female, Lesbian, Intersex, Non-binary, Trans (including trans men/masc) and Agender people, with the * covering other gender-diverse identities.
It overlaps with LGBTQIA+, but isn’t the same thing - LGBTQIA+ is a broader umbrella for sexual orientation and gender identity, whereas FLINTA* specifically centres around people experiencing gender-based marginalisation, often in spaces dominated by cis men.
In essence, FLINTA* is a wayyyy more eloquent way of saying no cis men allowed 🤗 - this includes gay/bi/pan cis men. - Want to know more about International Lesbian Day?
