Sapphic Spores
Description
Slow down, look closer, and get to know the forest through its fungi.
Join hosts Brittany Marcotte and Liam Whitworth for a guided mushroom and forest ecology walk on Oregon’s North Coast. Brittany is a field mycologist and outdoor educator with more than 1,200 research-grade fungi observations. She’ll show us how to spot what’s growing under the moss, around the stumps, and right under our boots, and how it all connects.
No mushroom knowledge needed. Come curious, come solo, or bring your crew. It’s a low-pressure way to meet people when you’re not sure what to say: just point at a weird mushroom and you’ve got a conversation.
Pick your path
🍄 The Easy Wander
A slow, gentle stroll with very little walking on easy, accessible ground. Lots of stopping, looking, and chatting. This one is for anyone who wants forest magic without a hike.
Bring: closed-toe shoes, rain layers, water
🌲 The Deep Woods
A harder, more adventurous hike with elevation, roots, rocks, and stumps to scramble over. Your reward is getting off the beaten path to lesser-known spots most people never see, where the fungi get wilder and weirder. You’ll need steady footing on uneven ground. Not suitable for small children.
Bring: shoes with good traction, rain layers, water
Good to know
This is a learning walk, not a foraging class. We look, photograph, and ask questions, but we leave the mushrooms where they grow.
Light coastal rain is part of the experience. If the weather turns unsafe, we’ll reschedule and let you know.
Exact location TBD- we will send an update before event.
