Event description

Sarah Carroll - NQR&B Album Launch
Saturday 19th October 2024 - 6pm
The Servo, Port Kembla / Dharawal Country

Special guests Su Morley, Newcastle's Cajun fiddle queen, and Shannon Bourne, Australia's most sought-after guitarist!

Ex-Melbourne, now Bellarine Peninsula-based singer-songwriter and roots-music luminary Sarah Carroll has  released her new Cheersquad Records & Tapes album NQR&B and announced a string of album launches in Melbourne and south-west Victoria.

In addition to her solo work, Sarah is known for her contribution to bands such as GIT, The Pirates Of Beer, Soft Gold, The Left Wing, The Junes and The Cartridge Family, her work with her late husband, the legendary harmonica player and singer-songwriter Chris Wilson and her and Chris's sons, the acclaimed singer/songwriters Fenn Wilson and George Carroll Wilson, as well as her decades of broadcasting and music writing experience.

NQR&B features contributions from sons Fenn and George, longtime collaborators and guitarists Leigh Ivin (of the Re-mains, and producer of Sarah's last album Star Parade) and Shannon Bourne, as well as Shannon's fellow member of Checkerboard Lounge, Tim Neal on keys and clarinet, and singer-songwriter and close friend Jackie Marshall, who duets with Sarah on the album's new single and video "The Way We Talk".

The release of NQR&B follows Sarah's stint last month as Australian Musician's Musician of the Month and coincides with a a lengthy feature in the new issue of Rhythms. NQR&B was 3PBS FM Feature Album of the Week and part of 3RRR's Soundscape during July.

Sarah Carroll is an individual who simply oozes musicality: a gorgeous, soulful singer, a beautiful instrumentalist, and someone who has an intrinsic understanding of all manner of roots music. Her songs chime with sincerity and deal largely with her experiences as a teacher, mother, wife, political animal and touring musician, and NQR&B, out now through Cheersquad Records & Tapes, is a collection which celebrates her great loves and her singular life.
