SATURATE
Event description
SATURATEÂ is an underwater sonic artwork by Sara Retallick that will reimagine the lively communal site of the Brunswick Baths as a space for sensory exploration, ritual, and active listening.
At night, listeners will swim and float in amplified sound – bodies moving through a submerged sound installation to access the omnipresent, internalised and tactile qualities of listening underwater.
Sara Retallick is a Naarm-based artist interested in multisensory listening and tactile sonic encounters. Her work involves composition, object-based installation, and multichannel sound system arrangements.
The Experience:
- To access the work, you will swim/float in the pool.
- An original generative sound composition can only be heard below the water’s surface. Specialised underwater loudspeakers are installed, creating a multi-zone sound installation that listeners can swim through and explore.
- There will be three sessions throughout the night, each running for 45 mins
Access:
- To participate, you must be comfortable in the pool unassisted for the full session. If you require assistance, you can add an additional ticket to bring a support person. Companion Card Holders can attend for free.
- The event is wheelchair accessible – please notify us when purchasing tickets as limited aquatic wheelchairs are available.
- A journey map of the Brunswick Baths can be found here
- Low-level lighting and haze will be used.
- If you have questions regarding access please contact festivals@merri-bek.vic.gov.au
