Join us for an unforgettable night of live music and authentic storytelling by Saul Roche. Kicking off the evening are Skip Sail and Sean McConnell with their signature brand of blues. Irish singer-songwriter Saul Roche is celebrated for his keen observations of life – a quality that deeply shapes his music. Launching his professional career with an Irish showband at just 18, Saul has since crafted a signature sound that fuses romantic, poetic, political, existential, and biographical themes with a generous dose of humour.
You'll experience live performances of some of his most compelling pieces at this launch event, including two existential yet hilariously offbeat tracks. One is a quirky tale of conception that playfully follows the journey of a sperm, while the standout piece, ‘Confession 55’, which earned him the Lawson Patterson Songwriters Award, offers a surreal image of a young boy’s blood coming alive alongside the familiar anxiety of confessing to the parish priest.
Additionally, you will hear ‘Soft Rain’, a separate nostalgic ballad recorded by Jane Thompson and James Rigby, which wistfully reflects on the Ireland Saul left behind. You will also enjoy ‘It Was Late’, the title track of his album – a beautifully rendered love song to his father – and the politically charged anthem ‘Don’t Tell Me’, A powerful statement inspired by a Black death in custody in Castlemaine.
Prepare for an evening of music that will make you laugh, cry, and feel every nuance of life.
