Save the Skate Film: A Film to Save the Maugean Skate
Join us for the premiere Hobart screening of this powerful documentary about Tasmania's ancient and endangered Maugean skate. First discovered in 1988 and dating back 60 million years, this remarkable creature now faces extinction.
This new Environment Tasmania film is Directed by award-winning filmmaker Josh "Bones" Murphy, this 30-minute documentary is produced by renowned filming crew Land and Sea For All in partnership with Patagonia. A short film documentary exploring the plight of the endangered Maugean skate – an ancient species worth saving.
Why This Matters: The Maugean skate is a living fossil that emerged 60 million years ago and is found nowhere else on Earth except Tasmania's Macquarie Harbour. With less than 1,000 individuals remaining and population declining by 47% in just seven years, urgent action is needed to save this unique species.
