Event description

It’s not just what you say but how you say it. When characters open their mouths and speak, they aren’t just delivering exposition—they are telling us about themselves and how they see the world. And sometimes they lie. Dialogue can make or break a story, depending on how it’s done. This four-hour online skill-building workshop will delve into the pitfalls and opportunities of writing dialogue in fiction.

Facilitator M. C. Benner Dixon, Ph.D., is a short-story writer, an editor, an award-winning novelist, and a writing coach. Her writing has appeared in Literary Hub, Flash Fiction Online, Reckoning, Fusion Fragment, Vastarien, Northern Appalachia Review, and elsewhere. Her books include Millions of Suns: On Writing and Life (2023) and The Height of Land (2025), winner of the Orison Fiction Prize. She is the owner and operator of Zizia Studio, LLC, which offers editing and coaching services online.

Sign up for this hands-on workshop to stretch your skills as a writer and sharpen the dialogue in your fiction.
