Program
Benjamin Britten Rejoice in the Lamb
Ralph Vaughan Williams Five Mystical Songs
James MacMillan Cantos Sagrados
This concert unites three powerful works that explore faith, humanity and the search for meaning.
Britten’s Rejoice in the Lamb sets visionary poetry by Christopher Smart in music that is by turns tender, whimsical and transcendent. Vaughan Williams’ Five Mystical Songs offers radiant lyricism as George Herbert’s devotional poetry unfolds in glowing harmonies, featuring acclaimed baritone David Greco. James MacMillan’s Cantos Sagrados (Sacred Songs) blends Latin sacred texts with Latin American poetry confronting oppression and injustice, creating music of fierce intensity and compassion.
With master organist Thomas Wilson, this program promises an afternoon of depth, beauty and profound emotional resonance.
