Course Overview: Essentials of SCHADS Award Training

Duration: 3 hours

This workshop-style training session is designed to give HR professionals, payroll staff, managers, and roster teams a clear, practical, general overview of the Social, Community, Home Care, and Disability Services (SCHADS) Award.


Participants will engage with real-life examples to explore the implications of the Award on payments and rosters. The session focuses on navigating the complexities of payroll and rostering, ensuring compliance, and avoiding common pitfalls under the SCHADS Award.

Key Learning Outcomes:

1. Understanding SCHADS Award Provisions:

   - Grasp the key provisions of the SCHADS Award and their application across different staff roles.

   - Learn about job classifications, pay rates, and allowances to ensure compliance.

2. Navigating Overtime, Penalties, and Broken Shifts:

   - Clarify rules for overtime, shift penalties, and broken shifts, particularly for sleepovers and split shifts.

   - Use real-world examples to apply these rules effectively.

3. Managing Sleepovers, Travel Allowances, and 24-Hour Care:

   - Understand how to manage and calculate payments for sleepovers, travel allowances, and 24-hour care shifts.

   - Learn how to handle sleep disturbances and non-standard hours correctly.

4. Avoiding Common Pitfalls:

   - Identify and avoid common errors that can lead to underpayments and legal issues.
