Who Inspired Our School Names? A Newton Cemetery Tour *New Date*
Event description
Stroll through the Newton Cemetery to learn more about the namesakes of many of our city’s elementary and middle schools. Learn about their lives and see the final resting places of Dr. Henry Bigelow, Isaac Tucker Burr, and others whose legacy continues in our public schools. With the upcoming renovations, remodeling, and construction of many of Newton’s Public Schools, now is the perfect time to reminisce about their founding and look forward to the future.
Most tours last approximately 1 hour. We go at an easy pace and typically cover ½ - 1 mile. We encourage you to wear sturdy shoes and bring a water bottle. All ages welcome!
Tour dates and topics are subject to change. The meeting location for each walking tour will be shared after registration.
Historic Newton’s walking tours are sponsored by Newton-Wellesley Hospital.
