Description

Some of Ensemble Q's favourite artists return for a performance of a work that has been on our audience's wish list for quite some time...

The Schubert Quintet

An unforgettable evening of chamber music awaits in the beautifully historic surrounds of the Loyal Hope of the Valley Lodge in Fortitude Valley.

Sydney Symphony Orchestra Concertmaster Andrew Haveron leads an exceptional group of musicians in a one-night-only performance of Schubert's magnificent String Quintet in C major. We are also delighted to welcome back our original and much-loved violist Tobias Breider, making this a particularly meaningful occasion as Ensemble Q celebrates its tenth anniversary.

“A charismatic and brilliant soloist who needs fear no comparison.”

— The Sunday Times, about Andrew Haveron

With strictly limited seating, this is a rare opportunity to experience one of the most beautiful works ever written for chamber ensemble, performed at the highest level, with the musicians just metres away.

Expect low light, an air of celebration and a breathtaking performance, followed by the opportunity to share a glass of wine or two with the artists.

Dress up a little. Feel the occasion.

Be one of the very few to experience this special moment in time.

Tickets are strictly limited. Your ticket includes a selection of thoughtfully chosen Australian and New Zealand wines, prosecco, beer and non-alcoholic beverages to enjoy throughout the evening.

About Andrew Haveron

Violin | Concertmaster, Sydney Symphony Orchestra

“A virtuoso of the first rank on our own doorstep.”

— Limelight

One of the most distinguished violinists of his generation, Andrew Haveron has built an extraordinary international career as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral leader. Celebrated for his virtuosity, musical intelligence and commanding artistry, he has performed with some of the world's finest orchestras and musicians, earning acclaim on both sides of the globe.

Before becoming Concertmaster of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra in 2013, Andrew held two of the most prestigious orchestral leadership positions in Britain: Concertmaster of the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Joint Concertmaster of London's Philharmonia Orchestra. His career has taken him to the great concert halls of Europe and beyond, performing under internationally renowned conductors including Sir Colin Davis, Sir Roger Norrington and Jiří Bělohlávek.

Andrew's chamber music credentials are equally exceptional. As first violinist of the internationally acclaimed Brodsky Quartet, he toured and recorded extensively, contributing to more than fifteen albums and receiving prestigious international recording awards. The quartet's celebrated collaborations crossed musical boundaries, bringing Andrew together with artists as diverse as Anne Sofie von Otter, Elvis Costello, Björk, Paul McCartney and Sting.

A prizewinner at major international violin competitions, Andrew's performance of Walton's Violin Concerto with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra earned a Helpmann Award nomination. In recognition of his outstanding contribution to music, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Kent.

Andrew performs on a magnificent 1757 G. B. Guadagnini violin, generously loaned for his use through the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.

We were very lucky to have Andrew perform with us regularly until the pandemic shut the gates and changed everything.

For Ensemble Q's tenth anniversary, we are delighted to welcome Andrew back for an intimate performance of Schubert's sublime String Quintet in C major — a rare opportunity to experience an artist of this calibre at such close quarters.
