Science Night 27: Taiea te Taiao Ecological Corridor
Event description
Taiea te Taiao was created to promote an ecological corridor to link Maungatautari and Pirongia te Aroaro o Kahu. The corridor will reconnect these maunga/mountains with biodiversity plantings which will enhance native species present, transform iwi connections to the Mangapiko stream and, ultimately, improve water quality.
Taiea te Taiao is a co-governed project with NZ Landcare Trust, Pirongia Restoration Society, Purekireki marae Maungatautari Ecological Island Trust, Waikato Regional Council, Waipā District Council, Ngāti Apakura, Ngāti Kōroki Kahukura and Maungatautari to Pirongia Ecological Corridor Inc Soc as well as, most importantly, landowners and community.
Bexie Towle is the Taiea te Taiao Ecological Corridor Project Coordinator working for the New Zealand Landcare Trust.
Bexie is passionate about biodiversity and enhancing environmental and personal wellness and also has over 12 years of experience with Karioi Project both as a Coordinator and a volunteer.
