The Bondi Junction Inquest: A Medico-Legal Discussion

The Medico-Legal Society of NSW invites members and guests to a timely Scientific Meeting examining the findings and matters arising from the Bondi Junction inquest.

More than a year on from the tragic events at Bondi Junction, the coronial inquest has brought important questions surrounding mental health care, clinical assessment, decision-making and accountability into focus.

This meeting will explore the medico-legal issues raised by the inquest, including:

• Standards of care in complex clinical circumstances

• Mental health assessment, treatment and risk management

• Clinical decision-making and professional responsibility

• The intersection of medical evidence, legal processes and public accountability

• Broader implications for professionals working across medicine, mental health and law

The evening will provide an opportunity to consider this important and highly relevant matter through a medico-legal lens and to engage in thoughtful discussion with colleagues from the medical and legal professions.

Peggy Dwyer SC - a Senior Counsel Assisting the State Coroner at the Bondi Junction inquest.
Dr Matthew Large - a psychiatrist who gave expert evidence at the Bondi Junction inquest.
