Discover Wingham's Scottish Roots: Day Trip with Port Bus
Event description
Bonnie Wingham Scottish Festival with Port Bus to Wingham
Sunday 1st June 2025
Tour Summary:
Wingham has had a long history of Scottish influence, beginning with the settling of Scottish immigrants in the early 1800s. They arrived with very few possessions and struggled to establish a way of life in a sometimes hostile environment, surviving the pneumonic influenza pandemic of 1918-19, severe floods, fires, and devastating droughts. They helped make the townships of Wingham, Mt George, Tinonee, and Gloucester what they are today. Many descendants of these early settlers still reside in the district and are very proud of their Scottish heritage. The Scottish Festival celebrates the lives and culture of these early Australians and welcomes people of all nationalities to join them. Each year the number of participating clans increases. The enthusiasm is still there!
