Screen Me! LIVE - free online course
Description
Description
People with disabilities face real barriers to cervical screening, and support workers and family carers are not always sure how to help without causing distress. This free, live online course changes that.
Join team leaders, service managers, support workers, mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, and friends across Australia for this real-time, co-designed session, built by a team with lived experience of disability and cervical screening, alongside leading researchers and clinicians.
You’ll walk away knowing how to:
Talk about cervical screening in a trauma-informed way to avoid distress.
Support a client through their first (or next) cervical screening test and what happens next.
Recognise what genuinely inclusive, person-centred language and respect look like in practice.
This isn’t a passive webinar. You will be able to ask questions live and get direct feedback from both lived experience advocates and industry experts to improve your or your team’s professional practice.
Facilitated by: Cervical Screening Advocates Lani Dinh, Tammy Milne and Molly Sunderhauf, who bring lived experience of disability and cervical screening, alongside industry experts, including clinician Professor Deborah Bateson, Professor of Practice in the Cancer Elimination Collaboration & Sydney Medical School, The University of Sydney and Donna Crompton, Tasmania Operations Manager, Soteria Independent Living.
The Enhancing Equity in Cervical Screening project is a collaboration between the Centre for Disability Studies and the Cancer Elimination Collaboration at the University of Sydney. The project is funded by the Department of Health, Ageing and Disability.
Bring any questions you've ever wanted to ask our Cervical Screening Advocates with lived experience of disability.
