https://vimeo.com/215750447

$20 for a ticket enables you to watch this 67 minute award-winning film in the comfort of your own home anytime from now until Saturday the 2nd of October.

What is the YCDT?

The East Auckland-based Youth and Community Development Trust (YCDT) raises funds through bequests, donations and fundraisers, distributing the money to local youth to enable them to follow their interests, passions and dreams.

Why watch SCREENAGERS?

The average kid spends 6.5 hours a day looking at screens.  What kind of impact is it having?

Doctor and film-maker Delaney Ruston wondered about the impact of all this time and about the friction occurring in homes and schools around negotiating screen time.

She probes into the vulnerable corners of family life, including her own, to explore struggles over social media, video games, academics and internet addiction.

Through poignant, and unexpectedly funny stories, along with surprising insights from authors, psychologists, and brain scientists, SCREENAGERS reveals how tech time impacts kids’ development.

It offers solutions on how adults can empower kids to best navigate the digital world and find balance.

Now more than ever, with lockdowns exacerbating our reliance on screens and highlighting the need for balance in our family lives, this is a relevant and important film.

“As the mother of three kids, we’re all worried about how much is too much.  For any of you wrestling with this issue, I loved the documentary.  It combines smart insights and practical tips for raising happy, healthy, tech empowered kids.”  Melinda Gates

Who should watch it?

This film is useful to teachers, parents, grandparents and all those who have contact with children and teens, as well as pre-teens and teens themselves.

It's a great film for parents and carers to watch WITH pre-teens and teens, to facilitate shared understanding around the impact of screens.

Parents and carers of younger children will also hugely benefit from watching this film and setting up parameters around their family’s attitude to screen use.

Please purchase your $20 ticket soon for your at-home viewing running through to the 2nd October.  Remember that all proceeds go to the YCDT, helping youth to achieve their potential.
