Family Secrets: New perspectives from Arab women filmmakers

To accompany its exhibition program, Samstag will present three documentary film programs at the Mercury across the year in partnership with the Documentary Film Society. Each pairing will be accompanied by a commissioned essay, and will also include a floor talk in the gallery the following week.

    6:30pm Screening: Q (Jude Chehab: 93 mins)

Q+A following the screening: join Dr Kim Munro in conversation with director Jude Chehab

An intimate and haunting portrayal of a quest for love and acceptance at any cost, Q depicts the insidious influence of a secretive matriarchal religious order in Lebanon on three generations of the Chehab family. Filmmaker Jude Chehab potently documents the unspoken ties and consequences of loyalty that have bonded her mother, grandmother, and herself to the mysterious organisation.
