Sculptural Ceramic Teapot Class
Create a teapot that is more than a vessel — a sculptural artwork with body, spout, handle, and lid. In this 6-week course, students will be guided step-by-step through the process of designing and handbuilding a teapot that can be functional, sculptural, or a blend of both.
Covered in this course:
• Exploring sculptural and functional teapot design
• Planning and designing for idea development
• Building teapot bodies using slab, coil, and pinch methods
• Constructing and attaching spouts, handles, and lids
• Surface development with texture, carving, and sculptural detail
• Refining and preparing work for bisque firing
By the end of this course students will:
• Have designed and created their own sculptural ceramic teapot
• Gain insight into the anatomy and balance of teapots
• Build confidence in handbuilding and construction techniques
• Explore strategies for surface refinement and presentation
• Have the option to return for a glaze workshop
This class is for:
Adults — best suited to individuals with some pottery experience

Clay and pottery tools.
Note: Materials, including clay and glaze, are not provided but are available for purchase from the tutor. Firing is an additional cost through WAG.
ABOUT THE TUTOR
Luke is an accomplished ceramic artist and dedicated educator with a deep-rooted passion for pottery. With a Diploma of Ceramics and a Cert IV in adult education, Luke brings both expert knowledge and a strong educational background to his classes. His experience spans wheel throwing, handbuilding, and slipcasting, with work that includes both functional and sculptural ceramics.
Luke’s teaching philosophy centres on fostering creativity and skill development in a supportive environment. His approachable and patient demeanour makes learning pottery accessible and enjoyable for students of all levels. Whether guiding beginners through their first pinch pot or helping advanced students refine their craft, Luke is committed to nurturing each individual's artistic journey.
