Sculpture on the Green is an outdoor exhibition celebrating the creativity, talent and character of artists living and working on the Tūtūkākā Coast and across Northland.

Set against the beautiful coastal backdrop of the Tūtūkākā Marina Green, the exhibition will run throughout summer, from 12 December 2026 to 31 March 2027, transforming this much-loved public space into an open-air gallery for locals and visitors to discover.

Featuring sculptural works by local artists, Sculpture on the Green brings together a diverse range of creative practices, materials and perspectives. From stone, timber and uku to mixed media and contemporary sculptural forms, the exhibition reflects the artists’ connections to whenua, moana, culture, community and the distinctive natural environment of the Tūtūkākā Coast.

Exhibiting Artists

The 2026–27 exhibition brings together an exciting group of artists with strong connections to Tūtūkākā, Ngunguru, Matapōuri, Whangaumu and the wider Northland creative community:

Shane Hansen — Visual Artist, Sculptor & Designer
A multidisciplinary artist of Tainui and Ngāti Mahanga-Houroa descent, Shane’s work spans painting, print, sculpture, fashion, objects and architecture, drawing inspiration from culture, identity and the native flora and fauna of Aotearoa.

Akke Tiemersma — Ceramic Artist
Based in Ngunguru and working with clay since the early 1980s, Akke creates both functional and sculptural ceramics while continually exploring pottery, firing techniques and the possibilities of uku.

Constanza Nightingale — Visual Artist & Tattooist
Chilean-born and Tūtūkākā-based, Constanza works across tattooing, painting, linocut and mixed media, with nature, sacred geometry and spirituality central to her creative practice.

David Rendu — Sculptor
A French-born wood and stone sculptor with more than 25 years of carving experience, David works with native timber, pounamu and volcanic stone, drawing inspiration from ancient cultures, tribal art and the human form.

Dorothy Waetford — Māori Ceramic Artist
Working from Matapōuri, Dorothy creates hand-built works in uku informed by whakapapa, whenua, movement and her connection to people and place.

Vicki Graham — Visual Artist
Based in Whangaumu Bay, Vicki has spent the past decade creating murals, signage and community projects and is now extending her practice into sculptural work inspired by local flora and fauna.

Garry O’Garra — Wood Sculptor
A Whangaumu-based maker and sculptor, Garry works with timber and driftwood, embracing knots, imperfections and natural forms to create imaginative sculptural works with distinctive personalities.

Donn Salt — Sculptor
One of New Zealand’s most experienced professional stone carvers, Donn creates highly distinctive works in stone and jade alongside bronze, cast glass and precious metals.

Grant Lahood — Sculptor
Based in Whangaumu Bay, Grant creates furniture, functional objects and playful sculptures, often upcycling native timbers and drawing inspiration from the creatures and natural forms of Aotearoa.

Paul Harris — Artist & Sculptor
Originally trained in jewellery design, Paul’s practice has expanded into larger-scale sculptural work in timber, combining traditional hand tools and power carving with an interest in nature, colour, pattern and geometric form.

Steve Moase — Visual Artist
Based at Sandy Bay, Steve is a graphic artist, illustrator and visual artist whose finely detailed work celebrates the flora, fauna and landscapes of Aotearoa. Together with Fiona McClurg, he also runs The Tutukaka Gallery.

More than an exhibition

Sculpture on the Green is designed to be more than a collection of artworks. Across the summer, a programme of complementary creative events will provide opportunities to meet artists, discover local studios and experience creativity happening across the Coast.

The programme will include artist talks, studio visits, live mural painting, art trails and other creative experiences, encouraging people to explore Tūtūkākā, connect with local artists and discover the stories and processes behind their work.

Whether you’re a local, spending the summer on the Coast or visiting Tūtūkākā for the first time, Sculpture on the Green offers another way to experience this special place — through the eyes, hands and imaginations of the people who create here.
