SDA Student Choreography Competition

Step into the spotlight at the SDA Student Choreography Competition! Held on Sunday 13th September at the Clayton Community Centre, this exciting event invites dancers of all levels to showcase their creativity and talent.

Students are given the change to create and perform their own choreography infront of an audience. They have the option of choreographing routines in Jazz, Lyrical/Contemporary, Hip Hop or Tap, entering as a soloist, duo, trio, or group. Designed as a supportive and encouraging environment, this competition celebrates individuality, growth, and a love of dance.

RULES:

1. Dances must be original, however some dance steps learnt in class may be drawn on for inspiration (not whole sections of dances).

2. No student may compete more than once in the same section.
You may compete in your age group in multiple styles, one dance per style.

3. A maximum time limit of 2 minutes applies to age groups 6 years and under and 9 years and under.
For all other age groups, a 2.5 minute time limit applies. 

4. Students can choose to wear a costume or dance wear.
If you are not wearing a costume we suggest adding some accessories or make up to finish your look. Ensure your music choice, choreography and costuming is age appropriate, and music contains no inappropriate language or themes.

5. Information on how to submit your music will be provided upon completion of your entry, please ensure you follow the steps carefully.

6. Audience members are not to take photos or videos of any performance at any time.

7. The adjudicators decision is final and no communication or correspondence will be entered into with the adjudicator or State Dance Association.

8. Please note: some alterations to the sections may need to be made depending on styles and size of sections.  A final program will be sent to all participants by Friday 4th September, no changes can be made after this date.

9. Dancers will compete in the age group determined by their age as of 1st Jan 2026
