Description

Repair it. Wear it. Ride it. Keep it in use.

Join the SD Fixit Clinic for a special evening of hands-on textile and bicycle repair during the San Diego Climate Week People Summit!

Bring a favorite piece of clothing that needs some love or a bicycle that could use a little attention, and work alongside our volunteer repair coaches to learn how to maintain, mend, and extend the life of the things you already own.

This special SD Fixit Clinic is part of the People Summit’s Experiential Circularity Fair, bringing together community organizations, local businesses, makers, volunteers, and residents to explore what a more circular San Diego can look like.

What Can You Bring?

🧵 Textile Repair

Bring clothing and textiles needing basic repairs such as:

  • Small tears and holes

  • Loose seams

  • Missing buttons

  • Simple mending

  • Other minor repairs

Our coaches will work with you so you can learn techniques that help keep your clothing in use longer.

🚲 Bicycle Repair

Bring your bicycle for help with basic maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repairs. Our bicycle repair coaches will help you better understand your bike and teach you skills to help keep it safely on the road.

Repair Is Climate Action

The most sustainable product can often be the one you already own.

Repair helps extend the useful life of clothing and bicycles, reduces the need for new products, keeps materials in circulation, and builds practical skills within our community. When we share tools, knowledge, and repair skills, we create a stronger local culture of repair and move closer to a circular economy.

That spirit of sharing is also what makes this event about unity: neighbors helping neighbors learn the skills to repair, reuse, and care for the things we already have.

What to Know Before You Go

  • This is not a drop-off repair service. The SD Fixit Clinic is a hands-on learning experience. Our volunteer coaches will troubleshoot and repair with you, whenever possible.

  • One item per registration: Please register the textile item or bicycle you would most like help repairing.

  • Replacement parts: Participants are responsible for providing replacement parts when needed. If you already know what part your bicycle or textile repair requires, please bring it with you.

  • For bicycles: Bring any replacement tubes, tires, cables, brake pads, or other parts you already know you need.

  • For textiles: Bring any matching thread, buttons, zippers, patches, or specialty materials you would like incorporated into your repair, if available.

  • Repairs aren't guaranteed, but even if an item cannot be fixed during the event, our goal is for you to leave knowing more about your item and your repair options.

About the SD Fixit Clinic

The SD Fixit Clinic, a program of Zero Waste San Diego, is rebuilding a culture of repair by bringing people together to share tools, knowledge, and skills. Instead of throwing something away when it breaks, we help people learn how things work—and how they might get another life.
