Description

Join the SD Fixit Clinic for a free, hands-on reuse and repair event! Bring your broken items and work alongside our volunteer repair coaches to troubleshoot, learn new skills, and hopefully give your items a second life.

This event is also an opportunity to take meaningful climate action right here in our community. Repairing and reusing the things we already own helps extend the life of products, conserve resources, and reduce the amount of material we send to the landfill.

Community Climate Action Day – Lemon Grove is hosted in partnership with California Climate Action Corps, a program of California Volunteers, Office of the Governor.

We’ve all become too accustomed to throwing things away when they break. At the SD Fixit Clinic, we’re working to change that by rebuilding a culture of repair—giving people the skills, tools, and confidence to repair and reuse rather than replace.

Small actions add up. Choosing to repair an appliance, mend a favorite piece of clothing, tune up a bicycle, or keep an electronic device in use longer is one way our community can participate in a more circular and climate-conscious future.

Bring your broken electronics, small appliances, toys, bicycles, clothing, and more for assessment, disassembly, and possible repair. We provide workspace, specialty tools, and volunteer repair coaches who will guide you through the process.

This is not a drop-off repair service. Our goal is to help you understand your item and participate in the repair. Even if we can’t fix it, you’ll leave knowing more about what went wrong and what your next steps may be.

What to Know Before You Go

  • Registration deadline: Online registration closes at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday before the event. We use Friday to organize the event and pair participants with volunteer coaches.

  • Walk-ins welcome: We accept walk-ins on the day of the event, but we serve registered participants first. We typically stop accepting walk-ins at 12:30 p.m. so we can finish all repairs by 1 p.m.

  • Wait times: On event day, we serve participants as soon as possible, but wait times vary based on how many items are ahead of you and the complexity of each repair. We appreciate your patience!

  • Repair times: Every item and repair is different, so times will vary.

FAQs

  • How is the parking?

Parking is available in several areas. The school will be closed on Saturday, so you can use the school's parking lot. Street parking and a small lot across the street from the library are also available. Please plan accordingly.

  • Do I need to pre-register?

Pre-registration is recommended because we prioritize registered participants. Registration closes at 10:00 a.m. on the Thursday before each event, so we can prepare and match participants with volunteer coaches.

  • What if the registration page says "Sold Out"?

This simply means online registration has closed. We still accept walk-ins on event day if time allows, but we serve them after registered participants.

  • Will you accept walk-ins?

Yes, walk-ins are welcome if time permits. We generally stop accepting walk-ins at 12:30 p.m. to ensure we complete all repairs by 1 p.m.

  • How many items can I bring?

Please bring one item per participant. An average repair takes 15–20 minutes, but times vary by item and may be longer. We’ll do our best to help everyone within the event hours.

To serve as many people as possible, we limit each participant to one item. If you bring additional items, we’ll list them as walk-ins and consider them on a case-by-case basis, time permitting. Not every repair is successful, but you’ll leave with a better understanding of the issue and next steps.

Tip: Bring any power cords, chargers, or parts your item may need.

  • How long will repairs take?

Repair times vary depending on the item and the number of participants. Even with pre-registration, you may still have to wait. We appreciate your patience.

  • Does it cost anything to attend?

No. Fixit Clinics are free and hands-on. This is not a drop-off service—volunteer coaches will guide you through the repair so you can learn how to do it yourself.

  • What if my item needs a replacement part?

Participants must provide any necessary parts. We may have a few spares, but please bring what you need to complete your repair.

  • Where can I find event updates?

Follow San Diego Fixit Clinic or visit our Humanitix event page for the latest news.

  • How can I contact the organizers?

Email us at sdfixitclinic@gmail.com with any questions.

  • How can I volunteer?

We welcome new volunteers! Complete the volunteer application form to get started.

  • Can I suggest a repair demonstration or workshop?

Absolutely! Email us your idea at sdfixitclinic@gmail.com.

  • What if I registered but can’t attend?

Please cancel your registration at least three days before the event so others can take your spot. Repeated no-shows may limit your ability to pre-register for future events.

  • Do you accept donations of tools or supplies?

Yes. Bring them to the next event or email us to arrange a drop-off.
