Description

This specialist session explores what good SDS can look like for people living in rural communities.

Drawing on lived experience and learning from organisations supporting rural communities, we will consider how geography can influence access to support, choice and control, and explore flexible approaches, resources, community connections and partnerships that can help address common barriers.

By the end of the session, you will:

  • Understand how SDS and Independent Living principles apply in rural communities.

  • Learn about opportunities and challenges people may experience when accessing and using SDS in rural areas.

  • Explore how flexible, person-led approaches and partnership working can promote choice, control and independent living.

  • Identify useful resources, networks and ways to strengthen your own approach.

Who is it for?

Professionals with some knowledge or experience of SDS who want to deepen their understanding of supporting people access SDS in rural communities.

Format: 2-hour online specialist session, drawing on lived experience, practical examples, discussion and reflection.
