Welcome to the booking portal for ‘Sea the Light’, a series of unique lantern making workshops in Shellharbour.
The Lantern Parade
The Lantern Parade will be held on Saturday 26 February and will be an integral part of The Waterfront Food & Wine Festival, drawing those present down to the waterfront and harbour foreshore to experience the festival finale and fireworks display.
But first things first...
In preparation of our community led lantern parade, we are inviting you to be part of a series of lantern making workshops.
The Lantern-Making Sessions
We are offering a range of workshops, for the whole family to be part of. We’d love you to book into as many as you like, though your commitment to your booking is very much appreciated. Here is what we have on offer, all workshops are free to attend.
- Community Workshop - Theme and Design
Dates: 17 December | 5.30-7.30 and/or 18 December, 10.30-12.30pm
Location: the Imaginarium
Ages: All Ages
We welcome all ages to these sessions. You will develop the theme and design of the lanterns, with support from our skilled artists and facilitators. Learn about what is involved in lantern making and explore the process, design and theme for individual lanterns and professional lanterns.
- Small Lantern Creation - School Holiday Activity
Dates: 25 January, 10.30-12.30pm and/or 2—4pm
Location: The Imaginarium
Ages: 5-12 years, and their parents/caregivers
Based on the community workshops in December, create a small lantern using a variety of materials and techniques. Please book a ticket for each person attending. Parents/caregivers are encouraged to book and support their child/children in the artmaking process, if possible.
- Small Lantern Creation - Saturday Session
Date: 29 January, 10.30-12.30pm
Location: The Imaginarium
Ages: 13-17 years
Create a small-medium lantern using a variety of materials and techniques. In this workshop you will explore shape, colour and texture for your unique lantern.
- Large Lantern Creation - Intensive
Dates: 18-21 February, 11-4pm
Location: The Imaginarium/Shell Cove
Ages: 18+
You are welcome to book into one or all of these sessions. In these workshops you will contribute to the creation of larger lanterns, which will require collaborative efforts! Light refreshments will be provided for these sessions.
The Facilitators
You will be guided through these workshops by The Wonderful Phil and The Wonderful Kylie!
Phil Relf is the Artistic Director of IKARA Celebratory Events. Phil is passionate about community, theatre, performance and events. For a community to make and parade lanterns that they have made themselves is an empowering experience for both the participants and onlookers alike.
Kylie Morrison is a local artist, dancer, choreographer, and has a Bachelor of Art Education. She is also the Founder and Director of Astarte Mind and Body and Astarte Studio Belly Dance & Fusion. Art and creativity are essential aspects of our humanity. The value of art is not in monetary gain or profit, but in its intrinsic value to our heart and soul.
