Meet the Seaweeds: Community observations with INaturalist (Sun 15th Sept)
Event description
Community observations are a key part of watching changes in our environment. This session will teach you tips and tricks to build your seaweed ID and photography skills, and you'll contribute to the Love Rimurimu iNaturalist Project with your observations.
We aim to create a detailed picture of what seaweed species live on our coasts and where we can find them. To achieve this, we will show you how to look for, identify, photograph and upload observations in the field and contribute to community knowledge.
Bring your own phone or tablet with the iNaturalist app downloaded and ready to go, drinking water, warm layers and gumboots if you want to get into the rock pools.
Bookings required. Fair weather event- we'll update you on postponements/cancellations the day prior.

Seaweed Series: This event is part of a series we'll be holding over 2024 to introduce the seaweeds/rimurimu of Wellington. We're huge rimurimu fans here, and we want to tell the world how wonderful seaweed are! No previous knowledge or experience is necessary to take part in these events, just a bit of seaweed curiosity. Keep your eyes on our fb and website for event updates.
If you want to leave with one of our beautiful waterproof underwater guides on the day these can be bought for $15 on the day, or download for free on our resources page.
