Adelaide Plains Council has partnered with The Nature Conservancy Australia to celebrate Nature Festival by discovering hidden worlds at Thompson Beach!

Reef ramble

Join marine biologists for a guided citizen science adventure at Thompson Beach and learn about our fascinating and unique rock pool flora and fauna!

Learn how to collect scientific data and record your findings on one of the biggest global citizen science platforms, iNaturalist.

This event is for people of all ages.

What to bring

This event is outdoors. Please check the weather forecast on the day and wear comfortable clothing and a hat, and bring a water bottle.

Please wear enclosed footwear (e.g. sneakers, walking shoes, reef shoes) as the reef ramble will take place on the mud flats or rocks.

Accessibility

The reef ramble involves walking on rocky, muddy, uneven surfaces.

A public toilet is located at the Thompson Beach north public carpark, 1.3km from the Bakers Creek Trail – which is a 2-minute drive or approximately 17-minute walk.

Dietary requirements

Light refreshments will be provided. Limited gluten free, dairy free, nut free and vegan options will be available – please advise us of any dietary requirements when registering.

Weather

We will monitor the weather forecast leading up to the event. In the case of heavy rain or wind, this event will be relocated indoors, where a different activity will be organised that still provides a chance to learn about the hidden worlds beneath the tide.
