Sector Sessions: Long Table (October)
Description
Presented by Randwick City Council, Sector Sessions is a year-round program of workshops and drop-in sessions designed to support and strengthen creative practice. Led by industry professionals, it offers a space for artists to build skills, share knowledge, and connect with others navigating the realities of creative work.
About the Session
Randwick Town Hall will be transformed into the ultimate space to focus, with long tables, low lighting, free coffee, and not to mention the accountability of an open-plan workspace. Step out of your bedroom office, free up the table at your local café, and join your creative peers at the Long Table, a pop-up co-working session hosted by the Arts & Culture team.
Programmed during grants season (IYKYK), use this session to smash that inbox, send those invoices, write those pitches, or finally spend some time updating your website. Want to lock in without distractions? Give us your phone. We'll keep it safe.
Whether you're a start-up, sole trader, or seasoned professional, administration can be a lonely part of creative practice, often left neglected. At the Long Table, you're never alone. Think of it like parallel play, but for adults. With emails.
Need expert advice while you're here?
Throughout the day, you'll also have access to a free expert advice, where you can chat one-on-one with industry experts and get practical answers to the questions holding up your creative practice.
Joining us from 11am to 2pm is Robbi James, Director of Engagement at Creative Plus Business, a national social enterprise that helps artists, creative freelancers and arts organisations build confidence in the business side of creative work. With a background spanning arts leadership, touring, communications, marketing and project management, Robbi has helped creatives across Australia turn great ideas into sustainable careers.
Ask him about marketing your work, growing an audience, developing your brand, writing stronger pitches and grant applications, building partnerships, or simply finding smarter ways to manage the business side of being creative.
Sign up for an advice session with Robbi as you arrive, no pre-registrations required.
Questions you could bring to Robbi:
· How do I get more people to notice my work?
· Does my website need a refresh?
· What do I post when I have nothing to post?
· How can I market myself without feeling awkward?
· What's the best way to build an audience with limited time and budget?
· How do I write a stronger artist bio, pitch or project description?
· What business habits should every creative develop?
Come for an hour or stay all day. Bring your laptop, your to-do list, and those questions you've been meaning to ask.
