See You Later Mum

A play about hopes, dreams, and destiny across the generations 

A deeply touching yet hilarious play about love transcending separation, this story spans 3 generations of women. beginning in Northern England in 1965 when Jennifer emigrates to Australia leaving her mother Dotty with an empty nest.  Weaving in and out of time, Jennifer has the last goodbye.

See You Later Mum! is a poignant yet funny play in the style of gig theatre with original songs. It is performed by Christine Firkin and Kay Proudlove who span the generations, sharing the role of Jennifer as the times change and Jennifer ages.

About the Company

See You Later Mum! is a collaboration between two artists, born from an idea by Christine Firkin, a performer with years of experience in the performing arts. Christine envisioned original songs to complement the story and enlisted the talents of Kay Proudlove, a young Australian singer-songwriter and composer. The work is candid, frank, and has toured notable festivals, including the Adelaide Fringe Festival (2021), the Edinburgh Festival Fringe (2022), and the Sydney Fringe Festival (2022).

Kay Proudlove is a seasoned performer in the indie folk scene, having toured her original music across Australia and internationally over the past 15 years.

Christine was the Choral Director of the Opera House concerts for the Granville District (Department of Education) and the Arts North series between 2000 and 2015. She counts these experiences as the highlight of her teaching career.

Come early for a Choral Workshop and Lunch!

Since May is a celebration of singing at the Malachi, we have planned an engaging choral event in the morning. Christine and Kay will be holding a workshop offering an opportunity to sing, reflect, and come together to celebrate a shared connection—we all have mothers!

You may like to join in for the whole day - a fun, inclusive choral workshop; a communal lunch and the theatre performance of See You Later Mum.  Or come for the 2pm musical theatre performance. 

Participation in the workshop is free of charge, supported by the Australian Office of the Arts. Lunch is $10 cash on the day and the performance of See you Later Mum! (with addition of a performance of the workshop pieces by the combined choir) will be $25 adult/$22 concession plus booking fee online or $28 adult /$25 concession at the door.
